How to Verify Your Website with Live Search Webmaster Center

What is a Live Search Webmaster Center Account?

Webmaster Center from Bing allows you to submit a sitemap, check for crawl issues, view your backlinks and outbound links, plus much more. You will first have to have a Live Search account in order to access the Webmaster Center. If you do not have one, create one now.

Adding Your Website to Webmaster Central

Sign in to the Live Search Webmaster Center to begin
Select “Add Site”. Now enter your website URL.

If you have a sitemap, enter the URL address in the next field. Review the following “how to” if you need help creating a sitemap. If you do not have a sitemap, just leave this field blank. We can always add a sitemap later.

If you would like Live Search to contact you with any issues they find, put your email address in the next field. Your site is now set up so it is time to authenticate ownership.

Authenticate Your Bing Live Search Webmaster Central Site

Now that you have added your site, it is time to authenticate so Bing knows you are the legitimate owner or webmaster for this site.

You have two options for authenticating your site.

  1. Uploading an XML verification file
  2. Adding a Meta tag to your home page

Uploading an XML Verification File

If you choose this option, select “Download XML Verification file”

Upload the file to the root directory of your site.

Select “Return to Site List” and you should see your Authentication Code and the Last Authentication Method.

Meta Tag Authentication

Copy the meta tag text and paste in the <head> section of your site.
Select “Return to Site List” and you should see your Authentication Code and the Last Authentication Method.

The next step is to submit a sitemap to Bing if you did not do it when you added your site.
